FAQ

Freeze it and Make Your Pipe Repair Easy!

Accu-Freeze™ is the controlled liquid nitrogen (LN2) pipe freezing system, a method to freeze stationary liquids in a selected section of a pipe or tubing. It is the world's only patented, digitally controlled pipe-freezing system, allowing you to create an ice plug accurately and safely. By controlling the surface temperature of the pipe, Accu-Freeze™ can safely and accurately form an in-line ice plug capable of withstanding 138 bar (2000 Psi) in pipes up to 12" (300 mm) diameter.
Major Advantages of Accu-Freeze™
Saves Time

Prevents the need for draining and refilling systems.

Avoids Shutdowns

Allows repairs or modifications without shutting off the entire system.

Reduces Waste

Eliminates handling of contaminated water and saves large amounts of water.

Safety and Cost Efficiency

Controlled remotely, colder than other refrigerants, and more cost-effective LN2 delivery.

Standard Products

Suitable for pipe and tube sizes up to 12" (300 mm).

Accurate Control

Automatically controls the freeze temperature.

Key Features and Benefits

Only form an ice plug beneath the Accu-Freeze™ coil wrap, jacket, or aluminium clam jacket.

Wrap copper tubing or insulated jacket around the pipe section to be frozen and inject LN2 through the patented control system.

For the ice plug to form, the liquid in the pipe must be static (no flow).

Each unit can be set to 220 V or 110 V, with temperature scales in °C or °F.

Available for repeated freezes on the same pipe sizes, reducing setup time.

Ordering

Accu-Freeze™ systems are available with coil wraps, jackets, or aluminium clam jackets for pipes 6 to 12" (150 to 300 mm). Adjustable straps allow alteration according to application requirements, creating an ice plug without affecting the pipe's integrity. Detailed user instructions help select an appropriate location for safe freezing.

Accu-Freeze™ can create an ice plug while keeping the pipe wall temperature within allowable limits, suitable for nuclear industry restrictions regarding cryogenic exposure.

  • Clam-Shell Design: Popular for repeated freezes, with quick setup and specific pipe size fitting.
  • High-Grade Aluminum: Double-walled for superior performance, easy NPT fittings, rugged, and long-lasting.
Your Questions Answered
Designed for isolating sections of piping systems where no ready means of isolation exists.
Accommodates 6 - 12" (150 - 305 mm) with a copper coil for smaller sizes and aluminium clam shells for 2 - 16" (50 - 400 mm).
Required to prevent oxygen displacement by LN2.
Must wear gloves, goggles, etc., when operating the system.
Not ideal unless welds are x-rayed.
Contents must be stationary and non-vibrating.
Possible with substances like milk and beer; consult the HFT Team for specifics.
Necessary for valve replacements, accessories available.
Suitable for iron, lead, steel, copper, and plastic (longer freeze times for plastic).

Allow enough space between the ice plug and closed connections to avoid hydraulic ram effects.

Know the mix and freeze point; ensure it solidifies adequately for a plug.
