Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® manufactures a range of Inflatable Stoppers for pipes and ducts, which are a quick and easy way to stop the flow of gas or liquid, stop the buildup of debris, and prevent the ingress of unwanted material or animals.
Will Even Pass Through Small Pipes!
The versatile Pipestoppers® Inflatable Stoppers can be inserted and retracted through small holes and then inflated to full size for stopping operations. They are used in a wide variety of industrial applications and are available in the following ranges:
Standard Inflatable Stoppers
Cylindrical Inflatable Stoppers

These stoppers will not invert (turn over) inside a pipe under pressure because they are longer than their diameter.

Spherical Inflatable Stoppers

These stoppers are used where the position of the stopper is not important. They can be put at any angle and still make a seal.

HFT Pipestoppers® Cylindrical and Spherical Inflatable Stoppers are available from 1 to 96" (25 to 2440 mm) diameter. They are manufactured using a high-quality robust latex inner tube and polyurethane-impregnated nylon fabric outer cover. They are supplied with a length of flexible inflation hose and a sealing valve. Inflatable Stoppers are available with heat-resistant covers to protect them against high temperatures. All HFT Pipestoppers® Inflatable Pipe Stoppers are manufactured with a strong internal inflatable bag made to the required shape and covered in a waterproof sewn polyurethane-coated nylon for low friction and to prevent the production of static electricity or accidental sparking.

Heat-resistant covers are available as an accessory for the Standard Cylindrical and Spherical Inflatable Stoppers range when exposed to temperatures of up to 300ºC (572ºF). These specially designed covers can endure high temperatures, protecting the Inflatable Stoppers and preventing them from being damaged or bursting. The covers are reusable without losing their heat-protecting properties.

HFT Pipestoppers® Heat Resistant Covers are manufactured to suit all sizes within the Standard Inflatable Stoppers range of 1 – 96” (25 to 2,440 mm). These covers are identical to those used on the chemical-resistant inflatable stopper PetroChem Stoppers.

Technical Specifications
Inflation Hose:
HFT® Pipestoppers® Inflatable Stoppers are supplied with an inflation hose fitted with a Schrader valve.
Hose Length
1 to 24" Inflatable Stoppers have a 1.3 m hose length, 8 mm ID, 14 mm OD, and are fitted with a standard Schrader valve.
Collapsible and Lightweight:
HFT Pipestoppers® Inflatable Stoppers are totally collapsible and lightweight, making them easy to handle on-site and ship worldwide.
Customization:
Each Inflatable Stopper is made specifically to suit the ambient conditions. Specials and Stoppers with through tubes are available as non-standard.
Accessories:
Foot pumps can be supplied where required.
Your Questions Answered
HFT Pipestoppers® Inflatable Stoppers can be inserted and retracted through holes smaller than the one to be sealed. They are less expensive than mechanical stoppers but are not as suitable for applications requiring the ruggedness and strength of a mechanical stopper.
It is common to brace the ends of pipes to prevent stoppers from sliding out. The Pipestoppers® Division of Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® can provide further data.
The HFT Pipestoppers® Division manufactures special Inflatable Stoppers for the petrochemical industry where long-term resistance to chemicals and/or petrochemical oils and vapors is necessary.
