Improve Weld Root Profiles!

Argweld® Weld Backing Tape® by HFT® is designed to support weld roots and provide even weld root profiles. The backing tape comprises a 75 mm wide aluminium adhesive tape with a 25 mm wide fibreglass band in the centre, onto which the weld can be cast. This setup dramatically increases welding speeds, resulting in neat, clean welds that require minimal post-weld attention.

Technical Specifications
Material Composition:
Carrier Tape: 76 mm (3") wide high-temperature heat-resistant adhesive aluminium backing foil.
Fiberglass Band: 25 mm (1") wide woven glass fibre cloth, weight of 1000 grams per square meter.
Adhesive: Non-contaminating, a non-toxic adhesive that bonds the glass fibre backing strip firmly to the metal joint.
Low Current Grade (80 amps):
1.5 mm thick fiberglass band.
Suitable for welding up to 1.6 mm thick materials.
Supplied in rolls of 25 meters.
Medium Current Grade (160 amps):
2.5 mm thick fiberglass band.
Suitable for welding up to 6 mm thick materials.
Supplied in rolls of 12.5 meters.
High Current Grade (240 amps):
3 mm thick fiberglass band.
Suitable for welding up to 10 mm thick materials.
Supplied in rolls of 12.5 meters.
Super Heavy Amperage (600 amps):
Comprising 76 mm adhesive heat-resistant aluminium tape with 25 mm wide-thick weave glass fibre tape.
Suitable for welding up to 10 mm thick materials.
Supplied in rolls of 12.5 meters.

Yes, it supports the weld pool for single-sided welding within the specified current constraints.
The adhesive will not contaminate the weld and is easily removed after the weld has cooled.
Light Duty: Up to 80 Amps.
Medium Duty: Up to 160 Amps.

Super Heavy Duty: Up to 600 Amps.
No, the properties of the glass fibre degrade after one use, and the adhesive may not work twice.

It is suitable for sheets, plates, pressure vessels, large-diameter pipes, tanks, and more. It supports the weld pool and sometimes eliminates the need for back purging or double-sided welding.

Backing tape is more economical for welding currents up to 600 amps. For higher currents, ceramic backing tiles are recommended.
Argweld® Backing Tape® withstands high temperatures better than ceramic tape, which can crumble and allow air into the weld zone.
