An Easy, Simple, Positive Seal!
HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Plugs are suitable for a myriad of applications. They are mostly used for leak testing of pipework fabrications, or simply to prevent the ingress of dirt, vermin or other unwanted material. However, there are over 100 different applications for these plugs.
HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Plugs are constructed from injection-moulded, high-grade nylon components and rubber rings. They have the advantages of being light, non-rusting, easy to expand and can be dismantled for cleaning purposes.
Effective sealing is simple, insert the plug into a pipe or cylindrical opening and tighten the wing nut clockwise. The rubber ring will expand and provide a positive seal. To remove simply reverse the process.

HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Plugs are versatile, lightweight and mostly pocket size. They suit a multitude of applications and range from 0.5 to 6" (13 to 152 mm).
The multitude of sizes makes these Nylon Plugs ideal for a number of other applications in the water and gas industries as well as in all other areas where pipes are used or where there are holes to be blocked, including even on nuclear submarines.
Testing and sealing of all pipes, pipe joints and pipework assemblies can be done with the HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Plugs.
HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Drain Testing Plugs are used internationally as the standard drain test plugs for testing leak tightness of foul water lines at the time of installation.
Other applications include sealing holes in castings, tanks, other assemblies for spraying and blasting to protect the insides, maintenance and installation of swimming pool and water spa pipework, for use as 'Scupper Plugs' in ships, for telecommunication pipelines and pipework up to 6", as radiator test plugs for cars and commercial vehicles, as heat exchanger tube plugs, etc.
Along with natural rubber rings, HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Testing Plug provide a high quality leak-tight seal in the selected orifice and are nuclear compatible, chemically clean, demountable, will not seize up.
The standard seals are made from natural rubber. However, other available options are:

HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Plugs are low cost, light weight and easily transportable and provide very fast and effective sealing.
HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Plugs are constructed of high-grade Nylon 6 which has considerable wear characteristics and makes them stronger and more robust than other plastic plugs. Nylon 6 is an engineered polymer which is resistant to salt water corrosion as well as to many other chemicals.
A wide range of Nylon Test Plugs from 0.5 to 6" (13 to 152 mm) for specific applications is available, such as Drain Test Plugs, Waste Test Plugs, Sewerage Test Plugs, Scupper Plugs and many more.
The HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Plugs can be supplied with a hollow shaft for screwing on standard hose connections, or for using our own fixed nipple caps, or the free nipple and cap assemblies.
The smaller size plugs can be supplied with solid shafts for greater pressure testing capabilities.
Size range for the two types are:
A hollow shaft version with eleven sizes
from 0.5 to 6" (13 to 152 mm)
A solid shaft version with five sizes
from 0.5 to 1.5" (13 to 38 mm)

HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Plugs are available in 2 types.
Solid shaft version with a higher pressure rating with five sizes from 0.5 to 1.5" (13 to 38 mm).
Hollow shaft version for weld purging, leak detection, sealing and draining that has 14 sizes from 0.5 to 6" (13 to 152 mm), small bore and large bore.
All plugs have:
Threaded central spindle, shaft or waterway onto which a top and bottom plate are mounted, with a rubber ring between them.
Wing nut screws down onto the top plate which compresses the ring until the plug is sealed in the hole/cavity.
Optional rubber rings can be provided manufactured from different materials for resistance to higher temperatures or petrochemical vapours and fluids:
- Natural Rubber
- Silicone
- Neoprene
- Nitrile
- Viton
Hollow shaft plugs from 0.5 to 1.5" (13 to 38 mm) diameter have an outside thread of 8 mm and are provided with sealing caps.
Sizes of 1.5" (38 mm) and above are threaded with a 1/2" BSP thread for the connection of industry standard nuts/hose fittings and are provided with a solid end cap seal.
These plugs will support airtight seals and are capable of sealing against certain pressures.
The Nylon Plugs can be dismantled for cleaning and parts replacement.
Optional end caps are available for the 1/2" BSP threads, with fixed nipples/nozzles for hose connection or free nipples that can rotate when heavier hoses are used.
Nylon 6 is an engineered polymer which is resistant to salt water corrosion it is also resistant to many other chemicals. Along with natural rubber rings they provide a high quality leak tight seal in the selected orifice.
Special Versions
Where preferred, we can provide customers with coloured nylon to meet specific requirements.
Company names and logos can be included on the mouldings as specials too subject to quantity.

1. What is the maximum working temperature for the Nylon Plugs?
Nylon Plugs can be used intermittently up to 120˚C (248˚F) and the natural rubber rings up to 100˚C (212˚F). In continuous use, the nylon should be restricted to 100˚C (212˚F) and the rubber ring to 80˚C (176˚F).
For higher temperatures, HFT Pipestoppers® Division manufacture plugs made from steel or aluminium.
We manufacture and stock rubber sealing rings made from silicone and viton which can be used continuously up to temperatures of 200˚C (392˚F) and intermittently up to 300˚C (572˚F).
2. I have a hole to seal, where your plug won’t quite seal well enough, but the next size up is too big. Do you have any in between sizes?
The user can extend the range of each plug by a few millimetres by using an exterior rubber seal on top of the ring provided. (contact us at our HFT Pipestoppers® Division for complete details.
3. I want to use the plugs in an application where natural rubber is not suitable. Can I have the rings made from other materials?
Yes, we manufacture and stock the sealing rings in silicone, nitrile and viton.
4. What pressures can the plugs withstand?
A pressure chart for Nylon Plugs is shown on the leaflet along with working conditions.
5. Will the Nylon Plugs withstand attacks from various acids, alkalis and chemicals?
A full technical data sheet about the chemical resistance of nylon is available on request.
6. Can the plugs be used as a permanent stopper in pipes?
Subject to the pressure and the internal surface of the pipes, our plugs can be used effectively as a permanent stopper. The wings can be cropped to prevent tampering. The inside of the pipe should be clean and free from debris at the sealing point.
7. What is the thread on the outside of the small bore hollow shaft Nylon Plugs?
10 mm.
8. What is the thread on the outside of the large bore hollow shaft Nylon Plugs?
1/2” BSP.
9. Can I have the plugs made with company logo in our company house colours?
If your quantities are sufficient, we manufacture a range of colours. You may choose to have your company name and logo on the sealing cap in addition.

The Pipestoppers® division of Huntingdon Fusion Techniques HFT® manufactures plugs and kits of plugs for leak testing a variety of heat exchangers, particularly designed for radiators and inter-coolers for cars and trucks as well as automotive applications for the leak testing of car radiators.
For leak testing automotive car radiators, ready made kits of plugs to make the sealing of all holes easy and fast for reliable leak testing.
No longer necessary to use expensive brass or metal plugs that corrode and seize up because of the acidic nature of the water test bath.
HFT Pipestoppers® Nylon Plugs do not corrode, are easy to clean and low cost to replenish.
The plugs are made from nylon and natural rubber, so there is no corrison causing the plugs to jam up.
They can also be totally dismantled for cleaning and part replacement.

For leak testing the commerical vehicle components with the large ports, a separate HFT Pipestoppers® kit is available with large size plugs.
Designed specifically for commercial vehicle applications for the leak testing of radiators and inter-coolers.
For the larger holes found in radiators and coolers in trucks and lorries, the Commercial Kit provides those extra sizes that allow you to use this along side the Automotive Kit for the smaller holes found in car radiators.
The Commerical Test Plug Kit contains:
