Weld Purge Results

Companies who have to measure their weld purge results at a distance, may be experiencing unnecessarily excessive waiting periods to obtain a reading and may then be wasting more time and more expensive Argon because the readings will appear to be worse than they actually are in the weld zone.

The further away the monitor is, from the weld purge zone, the more inaccurate the results will be and the longer it will take to obtain a true reading.

When joints down pipelines need to be purged and monitored or when joints somewhere deep in a piping fabrication of some kind need to have their purge quality checked, the purge gas sample will take longer to reach the monitor and its sensor and may well have gathered some contamination along the way.

For example, on a 20 metre length of purge tubing, it took 30 to 40 minutes for the gas sample to reach the Monitor and the purge result was 20 ppm higher than at the purge zone.

Companies can now address that matter by using the PurgEye® 1000, the latest in the current Family range of seven different Weld Purge Monitors® designed, developed and manufactured by Huntingdon Fusion Techniques, HFT®.

The PurgEye® 1000 uses a remote sensing head that is placed in or near the purge zone, so that it collects accurate readings which are then fed immediately to the Monitor that can be up to 1 km away.

The sensing head contains an advanced lifetime zirconia sensing cell that will measure oxygen accurately down to 10 parts per million. In addition, the remote unit, also known as the ‘Torpedo’, has a pump that can be programmed to take extract samples at predetermined intervals in the event that purge gas follow is inadequate for a continuous reading.
