The Pipestoppers® Division of Huntingdon Fusion Techniques, HFT®, continues to grow with the addition of two new product ranges.
For making repairs to pipes with fluid inside, the Qwik-Freezer™ and Accu-Freeze™ Systems have been introduced. Freeze sealing is an increasingly popular alternative to “hot-tapping” and eliminates the need to shut down or drain down a system for repairs and maintenance.
These systems work by creating ice plugs (or “freeze seals”) either upstream of the repair site or on either side of an area where a pipe system needs to be maintained, for example, where a valve has to be replaced or a section of pipe needs to be cut out or where a leak has to be fixed.
No matter what the size of pipe or the fluid that is inside, one of the two models will most likely be suitable.
The Qwik-Freezer™ System uses liquid carbon dioxide and a series of insulated freeze jackets to wrap around the pipes to freeze the contents inside the jacket. Accu-Freeze™ uses liquid nitrogen with either copper coils wound around the pipe or with aluminium “clam-shell” style LN2 freeze jackets that are bolted together around the pipe.

Qwik-Freezer™ has become the industry standard for portable CO2 Pipe Freezing Systems with thousands of kits in use around the world for over 40 years.
Qwik-Freezer™ is
• very quick and easy to use.
• requires almost no set-up time.
• is the only CO2 pipe freezing system capable of freezing up to 8” pipe.
Even for smaller diameter freezes, Qwik-Freezer™ produces ice plugs (or “freeze seals”) that are significantly more reliable and robust and capable of withstanding far more pressure than the smaller plugs that other types of systems will produce.
The primary advantages of the patented Accu-Freeze® System include the increased freezing capability of Liquid Nitrogen (LN2), the ability to control the pipe wall temperature throughout the freeze process, the LN2 injections are automated which reduces the operators’ work load and reduces the amount of LN2 that is consumed (further reducing operating costs), and the fact that it can be operated remotely, which makes it ideal for use inside ‘hot’ nuclear areas where personal exposure must be kept below certain limits.
Both of these systems are extremely cost effective and many times more efficient when compared to spray freezing systems, which are limited to small tube sizes.
The savings by not having to drain other liquid systems to make repairs are able to justify the low relative cost of the Qwik-Freezer®™ / Accu-Freeze™ Systems. Not only the savings in product, but in emptying and refilling times.
HFT® has trained personnel on hand to demonstrate and service the products where required and the products carry the standard HFT® no quibble instant replacement guarantee.
