Burry Port V Abercrave 3rd Round Swalec Bowl 13-12-14
Burry Port 1st XV welcomed Abercrave to the Memorial Park on a cold but sunny afternoon in an eagerly anticapated Cup tie.
The Young Blacks started the brighter putting the visiting team under huge pressure from the outset but only had a couple of failed drop goals attempts to show for their efforts. The first score came against the run of play when Abercrave managed to turn the ball over on the half way line and managed to feed their lively full back to run in a fine converted try in the corner.
Burry Port then hit back straight from the restart with a fine unconverted try of their own by hooker Iwan Roberts, the rest of the first half continued with Burry Port on top with the Home team line outs and scrums beginning to dominate resulting in another try from Iwan Roberts after the young Blacks scrum put Abercrave under pressure resulting in a turnover and after quick ruck ball they spread the ball wide to the hooker who touched down in the corner excellently converted by Scrum half Ben Williams.
HALF TIME Burry Port 12 Abercrave 7
The 2nd half continued with Burry Port playing 15 man rugby which led to another fine team try by wing Adam Ruddall again converted by Williams making it 19-7. Abercrave responded straight from the restart after a loose kick from the Blacks and no kick chase made it easy for visiting fullback to find some space and create a try under the posts. 19-14.
The next score came after a barn storming run from home centre Duane Evans who took four defenders over the try line with him. 24-14.
Burry Port continued to dominate but after a rare mistake from wing Luke Ruddall Abercrave were gifted a try in the corner, score now 24-19.
However the young winger soon made amends with a try of his own after he and his brother and fellow wing Adam combined for a length of a field try excellently finished by Luke in the corner. 29-19.
Abercrave failed to kick the ball 10m from the restart and with Burry Port opting for a scrum and producing a move straight from the training pitch scored a peach of a try from scrum half Ben Williams who again added the extras. 36-19.
Abercrave to their credit tried to get back into the game but as they attacked the home teams 22 a superb turnover from tight head prop Jordan "Tubbz" Williams and quick hands from replacement youth back rower Rhys Evans put the speedy winger Luke Ruddall into space and after he raced into the opponents half he put in a perfect kick for replacement wing Owen Thomas to gather and score in the corner for the final points of the match.
Burry Port ended up worthy 41-19 winners and have been rewarded with another home draw against Ystradgynlais in the 4th Round to be played 17th January 2pm kick off.
